I'm interested in preventing spider veins from forming in the first place. I'm in my late twenties and don't have any yet, but my mother and grandmother both have them pretty badly. Is there anything I can do proactively, or is it mostly genetic and unavoidable?

Protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure, especially on your face, is important too. Avoiding crossing your legs for long periods and watching your sodium intake can also help. While these measures won't guarantee you'll never develop spider veins, they can certainly reduce your risk and are good for your overall health anyway.
